Cubase Pro 12 constantly crashing

I’m not saying Windows updates broke it. I’m using Microsoft as an example of a company that actually puts out unstable software as an example of I know who actually sucks as a company, which it’s not Steinberg. lmao

That way it doesn’t sound like I’m trying to blame Steinberg or Cubase for this problem, but hoping anyone notices some solutions etc I can try.

I think the problem is when I try to use Synthesizer V with a third party VST2 plugin. I deleted that plugin and my project finally opened.

EDIT: Yeah so far no issues now. I found the solution on the Synthesizer V forums, which, to be fair, figuring out a combination of two VSTs causing a crash together is really hard.

It’s almost always a third party plugin (Most crashes are caused by plugins) - a way of narrowing it down:
disable plugins (cubase gives you this option after a crash) - see if the project loads.
If it does - you know a plug in is the issue, so note down all of the used plugins.
(If the project crashes on open, you can narrow it down a bit more by watching the tracks load - the one after where it crashes tens to hold the dodgy plugin)

Go to your vst plugins folder or vst3 plugins folder and rename the plugins in the track one by one until you find the one that when it doesn’t load the software doesn’t crash.

Hope this helps

Sept 9th. Focusrite 18i8.Nividia graphics card. Windows 11. getting more and more freeze ups not enabling me to shut down Cubase 12 professional totally and I do have the latest version this has been going on for months. I have to reboot every time this happens. Dell tower 13tb 64 gigs ram. NOTE- no crash dump files are created. I really feel Steinberg needs to troubleshoot with focusrite because the problem might be with their driver

if Steinberg wants to take control of my computer I’m all up to it for a remote conference just give me a date and time

Hi,

Could you attach a DMP file, please?

A post was split to a new topic: Cubase 12 pro is not possible to use

Cubase 12.0.70.464 64bit 2023.10.21 18.03.06.567.dmp (605.2 KB)
Cubase 12.0.70.464 64bit 2023.10.20 17.15.37.710.dmp (2.5 MB)

Cubase 12.0.70.464 64bit 2023.10.14 0.49.31.616-freezedump.dmp (1.5 MB)

Cubase 12.0.70.464 64bit 2023.10.4 10.24.36.122-freezedump.dmp (1.3 MB)
Cubase 12.0.70.464 64bit 2023.10.1 20.08.28.728-freezedump.dmp (2.0 MB)

Just a few of the DMP files that have been happening recently . Some incidents i didnt even get DMP files when multiple times i had to Task manager just to shut Cubase down.
Also got a “License check for content could not be completed” which was a new one. Turns out after digging around it was Ilok and it needed updating so i updated it and it seems to have worked.

Please switch off the usage of the Cubase Hub to see if that helps.

The second and third crash from the top happened in this file:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Waves\Plug-Ins V12\Berzerk Distortion.bundle\Contents\Win64\GenericMultiCoreProcessor.dll

The fourth report (uppermost freezedump) happened in this plugin:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\Howard Benson Vocals.vst3

The fifth and sixth report happened in this plugin:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\Kontakt 7.vst3

The 7th report stems from “nvoglv64.dll”, which I assume is part of your graphic card driver package.

And the final two report stem from the plugin Kontakt 7 again.

Thanks Johnny yeah Howard Benson runs with Ilok licenser and ive been having a bit of trouble with Ilok recently. Maybe a reinstall or an update is needed with Kontakt 7 i will check Native access for any updates.
Thanks again buddy!

So i updated my graphics card and updated Kontakt 7 and Native access and reinstalled ILOK and this happened today…

Cubase 12.0.70.464 64bit 2023.10.25 11.54.44.051.dmp (1.3 MB)
Cubase 12.0.70.464 64bit 2023.10.25 23.37.24.191.dmp (1.1 MB)

Was there somethig i missed to cause the crash. The one that JUST happened didnt even freeze it just completely shut down as in the DAW just vanished off my screen which was incredibly frustrating as i was working on a project at the time.

I hope this can be resolved somehow because its becoming a bit too frequent.

Thanks again for your help guys.

One crash is the Generate VST and the other is the graphics driver

Thanks Steve i will look into the graphics driver again and check out Generate.

Graphics driver and Generate vst were both up to date at the time of the crash. Hhhmm…

When I close Cubase it freezes

Yeah quite a few times ive had to perform a Task manager and force close it because its “Not Responding” . Realy frustrating.

And my plugins are all up to date. I have already reinstalled and done all the procedures and still have the same problem.

Just did it again. Had to Task manager another Force stop.

Yeah all of my plugins are all up to date with the latest versions and drivers too.

Adam, which model of Nvidia graphics card are you using? I had a similar problem as yours in the past, it drove me crazy but, at the end, it was a faulty card. I replaced it with a cheap Radeon RX 560 and problem solved. Also, my brother had issues with his old Nvidia 710 GT card in conjunction with some Waves V12 plugins. He also replaced the card and it was it, too.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER . Sounds posh with the “SUPER” but its probably not lol.

please, can somebody tell me how to disable steinberg mediabay server, cause it seems to crash cubase 12 pro v.12.0.70
