I have been able to create a .dawproject file. The problem is that it is always an empty 2KB file despite implementing all the available intel on Steinberg and the rest of the world (web). I would like to use it to share with my Cubasis, but step 1 has been a bust. I would do .mid but Cubasis did not consume that one; despite its neighbor GarageBand gobbling it right up.
Has anyone had any success exporting from Cubase Pro 15 to dawproject? If so, please, share…
So I guess larger projects are toast? Mine should have been close to 75KB of plain old vanilla midi notes tracks - no automation - no audio - no vsts, markers set beginning and end, yada yada…
Is there any expert advice on this subject other than what I found in the Cubase Forum?
Should I re-download the program? Maybe a recent patch?
No, projects that don’t start with “_Test” are toast. Sometimes it is hard to understand for me what conclusions can be drawn from a simple “it works on my computer”.
Either your project contains only items which do not get exported by Cubase (e.g. Drum Machine tracks) or maybe your preferences are ditched. You can try to start with a fresh set of preferences. Do you know how to do this? In case not, are you on Mac or Win?
I was systematically going through testing different parameters with a single track with 5 midi notes “test” project as a “surely this will work” test; however, it did not.
So something about my system configuration is unappealing to dawproject.
Win 11 pro on Dell Pro Max 16 Plus with 64GB RAM.
MIDI thru CME C2MIDI to Roland JV1010
And MIDI to Yamaha MOXF8 and INTEGRA-7
Audio thru MOTU Gen-5 ASIO to MOTU UltraLite Mk5 audio.
Oh, and since our last conversation but before the last few tests, I updated CUBASE to 15.0.10 from 15.0.06.
Signing off for the night, got a long drive tomorrow.
Thanks again,
For testing purposes you can try to go to Edit → Profile Manager… and create a NEW profile there. Then please activate it and restart Cubase.
If the problem still persists you can switch back to your previous profile at any time.
Size did not matter, I put 5 notes on one midi track, no audio, applied all rules and hints available- it exports a blank 2KB file with no content.
Even up to date with 15.0.10
Tech suggested creating a new profile, reactivate, and try again.
Johnny,
No luck - very frustrating considering that other users have reported to me that theirs “just works”.
I created 3 different profiles and tested each one. In each case, I checked that new TestDude was active once Cubase restarted.
Then I created a new Cubase project with 1 midi track with garbage for notes in it.
I even changed from the MOTU Gen 5 ASIO to the Steinberg ASIO in the Studio settings.
I’ve attached the original garbage Cubase project and the output I got from exporting to dawproject from that file if you’ve got time to look at it and divine its secrets or lack of.
As a retired engineer, I had to force myself to follow the instructions, but I did. Even more distressing that others have reported having no problem importing
.mid files into Cubasis (which was the reason I started looking at using dawproject instead). So very odd that both programs are having problems but one in on a brand new Dell laptop, and the other is on my iPadPro. I had no problem importing .mid into Garage Band; however, Cubasis did not respond to the import.
Maybe I need to change my name and start over.
Thanks again.

Aha, this one is actually easy to answer: pure MIDI tracks are not exported by Cubase to the Dawproject file. You have to use Instrument tracks instead. The Instrument track does not need to have a VSTi assigned to it.
Regarding MIDI import to Cubasis: I don’t know the app but from reading the manual I am under the impression that one has to click on the midi file and then chose to open it in Cubasis 3.
