Cubase Pro13 and recording

Former DP (MOTU) user I upgraded to Cubase Pro13. I am unable to record with my keyboard and use the Halion7 Sonic sound bank with Cubase. There is something I don’t understand. Thanks for the help!
MacBook Pro - Cubase 13 - Motu M2 sound card - Korg D1 keyboard.

Hi,

It’s hard to guess. Could you attach some screenshots, so we can see your setup?

My setup: MacBook pro connected via a Hub (USB) to my Motu M2 sound card (USB-C) with MIDI in/out outputs to Korg D1 piano. Cubase pro13 opened to the M2 card in the “Studio” menu (configuration etc.). By clicking with the computer mouse, I can hear the sounds but unable to record them the same with the keyboard. See the screenshots for the configuration. I hope I was clear in describing the problem to be able to help me. Thanks again for the follow and Merry Christmas 2024.

When you hit keys on the D1 do you see any meter activity in Cubase at all?

Unfortunately not.

Ok…so to be clear.

D1 MIDI output must connect to MOTU MIDI input.
Check where it shows all midi inputs (in the track inspector) that the MOTU input is available to select from the dropdown. Try selecting it (though all midi should work too)
When you hit keys on the D1 with the track record armed you should see a meter in the track move. If not then try to check outside of Cubase with a standalone instrument or midi monitor software so you know that the midi is getting into the computer.

II tried everything you suggested but nothing works. Maybe it’s my sound card that is incompatible, who knows? I have no feedback or output and when I press “record” the cursor does not move either. A real nightmare and I am not able to start my project, I don’t know what else to say! I will probably go back to DP from MOTU. Thank you very much for your help and happy new year 2025.

Better if you can show Grim, images of all input, output, external instruments and control room.

Does it move if you press play? If not then this is most likely an issue with the audio driver not with anything midi related.

Thanks for the information and for the following. Happy new Year 2025!

Grim here is my new setup: Steinberg UR22C connected with Korg D1 keyboard (In and Out) and with Cubase Pro 13. HAlion Sonic01 (piano). when clicking on a sound with the mouse, I hear the sounds but no sounds with the Korg keyboard. When I try to record also no sound and the record cursor does not move. See screenshots for more information. A real nightmare! Tks again for your help…

Can you answer the question whether the cursor moves when you hit play?
Even better import some audio and confirm that plays OK.

Playing, listening and recording an audio file is fine. The problem is still with recording a MIDI file. Attached is a screenshot of the audio-MIDI file. Thanks for the follow-up…

OK can you post a screencap of the midi port config. If audio is working then no need to look at audio connections.
And confirm that when you hit keys on the D1 you don’t see any meter move at all in Cubase?
And if you don’t see any movement are you 100% sure you didn’t mix up in and out connections from the D1 to the Interface.

The Korg MIDI In/Out outputs and inputs are properly connected to the correct MIDI In/Out ports on the sound card interface (UR22C). Here’s the screen cap…

MIDI Port configuration is what I was asking to see.

At least I see some midi info on the activity monitor on the last screencap so something seems to be coming in…I see D1 out is shown as missing (need to see config to know what you did there) but you have no need to send out to D1 if you’re trying to play Halion anyway.

Question is, is the D1 input set up in port config and is it selected as part of All MIDI Inputs.

MIDI Port configuration …

It’s not midi port config is it…highlight Config des portes midi in the left and then screencap??

Sorry here are the 2 configurations, for example, (2 tracks) in the inspector panel.

Not what I asked for. Go to studio setup. Read my last post and follow the instruction I gave.
