I migrated from Cubase Pro 14 to Cubase Pro 15. I have a Steinberg UR 44C connected to my Korg D1 piano. I’m getting no sound from either the input or output in Midi, despite making the connections in Cubase Studio. Any ideas?
Why are you using the “buildt in audio” driver and not the dedicated “Yamaha Steiberg USB driver” ? Try to change that and see what you got; follow the “getting started manual” for UR44C.
Midi in and out is not set by audio connections, btw. That is chosen in the inspector for the tracks you select.
I’ve tried everything, but in the inputs and outputs, I only see “built-in audio.” My sound card is configured correctly, but I can’t find it in the track inspector for the selected track. I had a similar problem with Cubase 14, which I was able to fix using this menu. I can’t find it in version 15 Pro!
To get Midi into Cubase:
- You have to setup the inspector/routing source and channel
To hear the sound triggered by Midi:
- You have to do 2 things
-
Set up the "audio connections/output" (your 2. picture) to use your card. And
-
Sending the midi to a sound module (VSTi or sim.) in the inspectors routing section.
-
PS: What kind of options do you get from the dropdown list in the “studio setup” windows for ASIO drivers?
Thank you for your help. I’m out of the office and will make the necessary adjustments when I return.
So you want to record audio from external (KORG) instrument or virtual (HALion)? If external, then you have to connect the KORG with UR inputs. If virtual, just render the dedicated MIDI/Instrument track.
P.
Yes, I want to record audio from my Korg using the Halion sound library. The problem is that my entire setup is fine, but no sound is being sent to Cubase.
Hmm - you can either record audio from KORG or sound from HALion. Your description is - thus - nonsense. So you have to think first what you really want and in case of your need for helping the others you HAVE to specify your idea correctly. Till now - it is NOT correctly specified.
I suppose, even though, you wanna use your KORG just as a MIDI controller so the only audio shall run from Haliion VSTi.
Thus you create MIDI/Instrument track with Halion connected to it, set the MIDI input to KORG (the interface the KORG MIDI is connected to) so the MIDI data can flow from KORG to the MIDI/Instrument track (you can see the MIDI activity in Transport Panel and in the track itself after activating Monitor).
That is all.

Since English isn’t my first language, it’s true that I’m sometimes a little confused in my requests. I understood your explanation perfectly and thank you for your clear answer. That’s all!
I understand - and crossing fingers
I hope it is clear now and working (basically there is not so much problematic points, just understand the principle of different data coming in/out and possible dependencies).
Kind regards!
P.
It’s not clear what level of understanding you have about signal types and connection types, so I make a describtion to get the grip on this. If it is to basic, mI appologies. So:
- there are two types of signals; Midi and Audio
- Midi is a series of numbers and contain no sound. To get sound from Midi you have to send it to a sound module (VSTinstrument like Hailon or other). Midi can be transferd from your Korg device via Midi cable, to you UR44c, and then to Cubase from UR44C via USB. It can then be saved by cubase on Midi- or Instrument-tracks.
- Audio is sound by itself and can be send to your UR44C by audio cables (jack plug cables) ; Line in connections in front of UR44C. and then to Cubase as audio sa ved at Audio tracks.
- How you connect your equipment with cables and make connections inside Cubase is crusial.
- Can you describe your setup and connections, and what source and what signal type you are trying to get out of it, then it will be easier to help.
- To use Halion you have to send Midi to Cubase on a Midi track or an Instrument treck.
