Cubase randomly disconnecting my ASIO driver?

Hey guys,

Something really strange that I’m experiencing, while working on a project, Cubase will frequently stop playing audio. Suddenly my audio driver is disconnected, because when I play back there’s no signal, and the audio performance meter is at zero.
But if I go to Studio Setup tab, it shows that Asio Driver is connected to “ASIO Firebase USB” (my Babyface).
During that all time, my audio plays fine in Windows for example, nothing is actually disconnected.
Then after a minute Cubase will bump a message telling my the driver has been disconnected.
That resolves immediately when physically disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cable of my sound card.
Why can such thing happen, and so frequently? The project is relatively busy but nothing exceptional, I usually work on busy projects.

I’m on Cubase 11,
Thanks a lot in advance

Hi,

Make sure, you have the latest driver installed.

To me, it looks like the driver (or the device) become disconnected and reconnected automatically. Make sure, there is no nay kind of sleep mode on the USB port.

Thanks a lot Martin, seems like the USB port settings in Windows was the issue

I think I’ve experienced USB suspend being re-enabled after a Windows update.

Choose the Steinberg power/energy profile (or one that doesn’t put anything to sleep to save energy).

Make sure you have the latest motherboard bios and drivers, and do the same for your audio device.

If you can check the manual for your computer motherboard to see if it has different varieties of USB ports, if any are ‘hubbed’ together, etc. If you have multiple USB chipsets and/or ports, try different ones starting with the closet matches to your audio device (I.E. USB2 vs USB3), monitor performance with each port (perhaps even do a latency check), go for the best performing one with the least ‘issues’. Avoid external USB hubs and expanders if you have problems and connect directly to a port on the motherboard. If you keep getting problems, you might even try a new USB cable, and keep it as short as you can.
