Cubase refuse to answer this question ...

I’ve emailed MySteinberg help desk 3 times but they never reply to me. Hoping someone here can help:

I have been told that my Cubase 6.5 is not officially compatible with Windows 10. In fact it has been crashing a lot so I need to upgrade to Cubase Pro 8.5.

However, I’d like a trial version of Cubase Pro 8.5 to check it doesn’t crash. Is there a trial version? If not, can I get a refund if it crashes?

You’ve missed the chance to get a trial for 8.5 as version 9 has now been released and they withdraw the previous version’s trial at this point (the 9 trial has not yet become available but would usually be expected within a month or so).

Thanks planarchist - I’ve just noticed that Cubase 9.0 is compatible with 64-Bit Windows 7 / 8.x / 10 (see https://www.steinberg.net/en/shop/buy_product/product/cubase-pro-9.html). I might get the update now.

You could wait for the C9 trial if you want to be sure it works on your setup. Also keep in mind that it drops 32-bit plugin support.
