Cubase Stock Gate Threshold Value, lower limit

This is probably a very minor problem compared to everything else going on with C13 right now but I am having a minor issue and was wondering if anybody has dealt with this and found a solution.

In short, the stock Gate plugin will only allow the Threshold value to be set at -60. You can type in -76 and it will accept it but it immediately changes back to -60 when you hit the enter key.

I am grouping some tracks together using an analog mixer. It appears to have noisefloor around-76 when nothing is going through it, so I was wanting to use the stock Gate plugin to mute the channel whenever the signal was below -76 just to get rid of the noise when nothing should be coming from that track.

From what I can tell, the limit is -60 on the Gate plugin and that is causing issues for me at the end of things where I have reverb tails, delays, etc that I want to be able to hear between -60 and -76.

I can just bounce the track and manually mute it where I know there isn’t anything there but doing multiple takes this is becoming cumbersome and doing a manual fade isn’t very precise on multiple takes where something might end just a bit different.

This appears by design so isn’t a “bug” but it is a bit irritating to have a superficial limitation on something like this.

If anybody has any suggested ways to get the Gate plugin to work in this situation I’d appreciate hearing them.

Hi djpat,
you are right, the lower limit is set to -60 dB and this cannot be changed, due to compatibility reasons.
Have you tried using the Expander ?
