so since today, whenever I create a new Project (Cubase Pro 13.0.55, Win11), the stock Plugins (Halion, Groove Agent etc.) don’t make any sound. I can put them in already existing projects and they work flawlessly and I can import MIDI-Data in a new project, which results in an working Instance of HAlion but I can’t create an new Instrument Track und get any sound out of it. By the looks of the GrooveAgent-intern mixer there seems to be something, it just never gets to the actual Cubase Channel (the preview samples where you choose the kits do though). I did set up a new PC, meaning older Projects were created on a different SetUp so it is possible, I just missed some option, but I simply did not find anything useful about this issue…
You can see a note triggering in the screenshot. Like I said, the project works fine with external VST-instruments and other sound sources. Is there some specific routing inside these stock plugins I haven’t found yet? Especially since MIDI imports generates a working HAlion…
Adding to what @arfo62 said: Can you upload screenshots of the routing in Halion & Groove Agent (Inspector to the right).
Also, do you use the Control Room? Please make sure that Previewing is set accordingly in your preferences if you preview using the phones channel (Edit>Preferences>VST>Control Room)
I have Control Room disabled. I know it can’t be a channel Routing issue since the playback sounds for the Drums play fine, so it has to be something inside of the Plugin itself. I tried getting as much Information on these screenshots as possible, you see Battery playing the same Midi Track and working fine, while Groove Agent does something, but never seems to arrive at it’s own Master Channel. Also there have been some error Messages during testing so I will try to reinstall the Plugins to see if that changes things next. If there is another Routing Window I don’t know please tell me since I don’t seem to be able to find them myself lol
Fun little update to this, sometimes when using Track Presets to create a Groove Agent Instance with a Kit preloaded this error occurs. Sometimes I get the error and nothing happens, sometimes Cubase crashes and sometimes Groove Agent loads without the Kit loaded. I do not have any idea what triggers this. Also I reinstalled GA multiple times by now. Also this only happens with GA every other Steinberg Plugins loads and simply doesn’t play sounds. At that point I think my PC is just trolling me
Oh and incase that matters somehow, they all work and create sound as Standalone Apps, just not in newly created Cubase Projects. Also to add the weird things happening, when using HAlion, I can actually get sound out of it by using any MIDI Channel but the first one, however since I can’t really tell the other plugins, what MIDI Channel to listen to (besides in the Track-Inspector but this does nothing) this only makes HAlion somewhat useable.
Another Update: So I seem to have found the root of the Problem. After fiddeling around with a lot of preferences, I’ve found that deleting my Mackie Controls from the Remote sections seems to work. I have a (SQ7 as a) Midi Faderbank, that goes through Mackie Control 1-4, and although the Device it self is at Midi Channel 15 and DAW Control is at 16, it somehow seems to Influence Midi Channel 1 for specifically Steinberg plugins. I can see my Faders trigger something on Midi Channel 1 on various Plugins and on rare occasions even make it trigger a sound, which is immensely weird, since device and DAW Control channels are nowhere close to Midi Channel 1. While I like knowing where the issue stems from, I sadly have absolutely no clue on what to do now…
Note: So putting any VST Instrument on Channel 1 in Monitoring while result in the faders producing little beep sounds on said Instruments (the pitch changing depending on the used fader). Not the rabbit hole I wanted to be in, I genuinely think I am going insane. The Faders still do their job tho.
Alright so it turns out all I had to do was disable ‘In All Midi Inputs’ in the Studio Setup for each of the DAW Controls, aswell as the Controller (in my Case SQ7) itself. While I’m happy it’s over, this feels very anticlimactic… I’m going to bed now
