In trying to work in Cubase recently I’ve noticed something changed and it no longer (consistently) puts out MIDI sound.
A couple of things are happening, and I have tried all the online troubleshooting.
The issue first arose when I was building a new Vienna Ensemble template. I can get the first track in an instance of VEP to playback MIDI, but all subsequent tracks will stop outputting sound after selecting them once. The first time I change to them, they work, and as soon as I change off and then back, no sound output. There is still MIDI being sent to VEP as I can see it responding to my MIDI keyboard, and inside Opus I can see the keyboard being pressed when I press a key on my MIDI keyboard. When clicking the keyboard in Opus, no sound comes out either, though.
I figured it was an EastWest issue so I contacted them and tried troubleshooting with them to no avail. I then loaded a preset template from Cubase (a random Neo-Soul selection from their electronic templates that come with the program), and the sam issue persisted. I can hear audio loops from the DAW, but when I select a MIDI track, there is no sound output. This is using the Halion instrument as well.
I have checked all output routing and everything is set to the basic Stereo 1/2. I have checked my audio connections, tried Control Room, and double/triple checked that my Interface is being read and receiving information.
I am at a loss as to fixing this. I tried a fresh installation of Cubase, and that didn’t fix it.
Has anyone ever dealt with this before? I’m literally going crazy trying to diagnose this.
I have tried Logic and Ableton and those are working just fine with the same routing, so this is definitely a Cubase issue.
Running Mac OS Tahoe (most recent version), Cubase 14, Presonus Audiobox iTwo, Vienna Ensemble Pro 8.
Thank you.
