Cubase technical questions

Hi,
Question 1) - pedal sustain

i have always troubles to work with sustain pedal in cubase. I record some midi with my piano, and use my leg for pedaling. It looks fine, but if i look on midi sustain, it creates hundreds of little points and often creates weird curve lines. To edit that is big problem for me as it means to delete all the points, and than manually draw point to point to create ON/OFF thing.

Is there some better way to do it than manualy?

Question 2) Clipping
i have scarlet focusrite 2 external soundcard connected via USB, but when i play my music, i use spitfire vsts etc, the music starts clipping fast. I bigger the latency to 1024 or so and its better, but than its hard to record in real time piano for example. My harddrives are SSD, fast, but what can i do for making it without clipping? If more instruments play together i hear some cracks in sound.

Question 3) - Midi lined uptuÄŤnĂ˝ text
I often need to make chord midi notes like C,E,G,B to start at the beginning of the bar, but when i record them, many of them are not in line. Is there some shortcut i can use to automatically line those up to beat? Cause without this its too time consuming to manually line up all notes.

Thank you so much!

  1. When you say “clipping” do mean distortion or drop outs?

meters go to red, and sometimes it creates distorted sound even when its not red. thx

Your pedal may be outputting continuous CC values instead of just on/off. Some pedals have a small switch with which you can change this.

Try analyzing your system with LatencyMon, maybe it will give you a hint.

I don’t know a shortcut for it, but that’s what you can try:

  • Select the notes in the Editor
  • Double click on Start in the info line
  • Confirm with Ctrl+Return

All selected MIDI events will start at the same point of time (that of the first event).

Alternatively: If you want to move the selected notes to a fixed point of time (e.g. start of bar 1), you can also use the Logical Editor:

In the Key Commands, you can then assign a shortcut to this Logical Editor Preset (Process Logical Preset > “Preset Name”).

In the Controller Lane Setup Menu, change Type of New Controller Events to Step.

Cubase Pro Help
The following events, however, will be always recorded as steps:
…
CC 64 (Sustain)
…

Actually, Steps is the default. Did you change it to Ramp?

thank you, i changed it to step again and its ok

i see in audio performance that during playing just piano and violin vst the PEAK goes into red fast. Other controls are ok
