I’ve been using Cubase since 2020 and honestly, I’d never leave it. However, one feature I really like in Ableton is the concept of Racks.
I know we can achieve similar results in Cubase by combining multiple plug-ins, routing and effects, but having a proper Rack-style system built directly into Cubase would open up a whole new world for users.
Even better would be some form of compatibility with Ableton Racks, if that were technically possible. There are already thousands of amazing Racks being created and shared for Ableton, and that brings up the biggest potential downside of Cubase introducing its own version: would developers and producers actually start creating Racks specifically for Cubase?
Compatibility, or even a system that could translate or import Rack configurations, could potentially solve that problem.
Imagine being able to load a single Rack in Cubase containing an entire effects chain, instruments, macros and mapped controls, then save, share and recall it instantly. For sound design and electronic music production in particular, I think this could be a massive addition to Cubase.
It would be great to get enough votes behind this feature request for Steinberg to seriously consider it. I genuinely think a well-designed Cubase Rack system could take the concept even further.
I don’t know what an Ablet*n Rack is. Are you suggesting a GUI-based system for creating, re-using, and sharing aggregated presets?
In Cubase, you can route audio to multiple FX tracks and configure them with as many plugins as you need; you can route MIDI to multiple instruments using MIDI sends or output channels to Rack Instruments; you can save and recall track presets containing whatever you want to re-use; you can browse, preview and load multiple types of presets in the MediaBay; you can share presets with other users. From a music-recording & production perspective–what’s missing?
Amazing well hopefully we can get more replies and votes cos it would be ace. I must admit i started to build my own so ill continue and gather a few of you up for testing
Somehow doubt it would be feasible to load Ableton racks in Cubase. But a similar feature that allows combination of instruments, effects, routings in a single insert slot would be very useful. Allows you to do all kinds of things that are much more fiddly with routing and sends.
