Hej Guys.
I need some help from you smart persons! This weird thing happened to me:
I was just recording some guitars for a new project like this: amp > speaker sim > soundcard. When I was done I switched off the amp and in that exact moment CB gave a weird noise and froze completely! Everything else on the computer worked just fine. After like 15 min I had to shut it down by force with taskmanager.
After restarting I had to realize: all recent recorded data was lost. So I plugged in the guitar and startet recording everything again. I didn’t think the connection to the amp had anything to do with it so after recording I switched it off, and: surprise - CB gave a weird noise and froze again.
Couldn’t get it to work, restarted - all recordings lost.
Anybody an explanation where this is coming from?
I’m on Cubase pro 14.0.20, Windows 11 Pro, the soundcard I used is a Focusrite Scarlett.
All help is much appreciated!! Cheers
Can you elaborate in more detail what you are using and exactly how everything is connected?
Absolutely: the Amp I’m using is a Hughes&Kettner Tubemeister 5. I’m also using its own speaker sim, the output is a XLR, which I connect directly to the Input of the Interface. That is connected to my Computer via USB. That’s basically it - no other programms where running, Wifi turned off, since it is a preproduction there is nothing in the project except two Vst-i’s and some audio tracks, no FX or any 3rd party stuff…
Odd. The only thing I can think of is amp is giving off a voltage spike when you turn it off which in turn wigs out your interface causing Cubase to freeze. Perhaps there is a grounding issue somewhere?
Since it sounds like it is consistent, I would try disconnecting the amp from the interface before turning it off.
Edit:
Your recorded files shouldn’t disappear just because Cubase craps out. Look in your project/Audio folder.
Odd it is! You’re probably right - I just didn’t think that this could affect cubase in this way!
My Power supply is pretty solid, maybe the amp is having issues.
Also strange was that the soundcard was working fine, I checked it with an audio player and YT while CB was still out: no problems here. I couldn’t believe that my hardware had such an impact on Cubase…
I will be more carefull in the future - Thank you very much for your input @mlib!!!
