Cubase Will not start - completely stuck on loading MIDI

I am pretty sure I caused this by a setting I made in Studio Set up, but now unfortunately I cannot get to Studio Set Up to reverse the change, as Cubase hangs on installing MIDI. I tried the options in Safe Mode, inc do not load VSTs or prefs. It is to do with a set of faders, which are currentl unplugged, but still Cubase will not start.

Any ideas please?

If you are on Windows 11, I had the same problem.

But after a while my PC went down and restartet automatically.

After that I had better Midi !

For the new Windows Midi Setup, which was rolled out

last week i.e. here in Germany (if you have the windows updates

done), you get Midi 2.0. and the multi client ability, even

for Midi 1.0 !

Hi,

Did your Windows update recently? There is a new update in the MIDI area.

Yes Martin

Uninstall from the device manager all your midi devices. Reboot your system and let it install windows default drivers and tou should be good to go.

If you have an old midisport usb interface it won’t work…the anniversary editions work fine.

Well Paradiddle,
I shut down everything before and restarted but it did not work. Still the same issue.
Then, as you, I went away, for an hour or more came back restarted again, after doing nothing at all, and it restarted.
Yes I did have a new Win 11 update a couple of days ago

Martin: here are my specs:

Edition Windows 11 Pro
Version 25H2
Installed on ‎29/‎12/‎2024
OS build 26200.7922
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.300.0

Core i7 8770k 64gb RAM.

Does Cubase now running okay ?

When I went away, I left Cubase in the „ hanging“

state. So I think after the restart, Cubase takes the

new WinRt Drivers by itself, because I didn‘t have the

checkbox „use Device WinRT Midi“ in the Midi Port

Setup marked.

Hi,

This article might be interesting for you. On this forum, you can find this article.

I have the same problem with both Cubase 14 Pro and 15 Pro on Windows, stuck initialising MIDI….

Thanks Martin but I tried this Windows tool which confirmed I had the Windows midi protocol installed but crashes continue…

Hiya Norbury

Do you mean Software MIDI Devices? These are all I find in Device Manager,

thanks, joe

Under the sound video and game controllers category

Just right click and uninstall device for each one.

Reboot and windows will reinstall drivers.

If anyone is interested in whether their machine has MIDI 2 installed, on Win 11 , they have realeased a tool here: About Windows MIDI Services - Windows MIDI Services

Thanks for the suggestions but having removed all devices from Sound & Video Game Controllers (which didn’t help) I unpluged the iRig Keys MIDI controller and Cubase 15 Pro is working again…

I have been using iRig keys for many years without problems but something disagreed with it today. At least I’m back up and working.

In the last year Cubase 14 became unusable and I hoped for stability with C15 but my confidence was shaken today.

I know some of you will have had an utterly stable time so please don’t throw stones at me….

thanks, joe

This has nothing to do with Cubase. A new Midi service has been rolled out by Microsoft in Windows 11 and some older Midi devices are having some driver issues.

Have you tried plugging the iRig controller back in while Windows is running?

Unfortunately I am having more issues. to summarise:

1] Sometimes my three faders don’t work. Arduino Leonardo is their driver.

2] Sometimes they input into Cubase and I can see activity in the track lanes bar

3] Sometimes Cubase does not read already written data for CC1 and CC11. Note, this last one does not directly involve the MIDI driver as it’s playback.

I am using a standard EW Opus Strings patch.
