Cubase14/15 Pro not accepting mouse clicks on selected track (MacOS Tahoe)

I upgraded to Tahoe and noticed a couple of days ago that with Cubase 14 Pro, if I selected a track, it wouldn’t accept input from the mouse.

I can’t say click on Record enable or Monitor.

I can click on them on all the other tracks totally fine. If I select another track, now the newly selected track has the problem and the old track works fine.

Yesterday I upgraded to Cubase 15 Pro and it’s exactly the same

Obviously at my end, I wondered if anyone else is experiencing it with Tahoe, (whether it’s a Tahoe problem or something else at my end) .

Does it both with my MacBook Pro pad and my official apple Magic Trackpad.

Just uploaded a quick YouTube vid to show the problem.

Any suggestions greatly recieved

Thanks

Hi,

Do you use any 3rd party software to handle the mouse differently from the default handling by any chance?

Hi, no I don’t.

I do also run the Elgato Stream Deck XL but I have done for ages as do many others.

I will try it tomorrow with the stream deck disabled just in case though and will report back

Are you using the Cubase plugin for Stream Deck XL, or the Sideshow FX one?

The Sideshow FX one.

I wasn’t aware there was another option?

thanks

Doing some testing, it appears that the SideshowFX “Track Mix Strip” in the MIDI Remote Manager is causing the problem. I disable it and the problem goes away. I quit Cubase, restart MacBook, restart Cubase and the problems back.

So this time instead of disabling he script, I deleted it.

Then after rebooting and restarting Cubase, Cubase is totally fine.

I reimport the script and it’s still fine until I quit and restart Cubase, then the problems back.

So it appears to be something to do with the SideshowFX script.

Any further advice greatly received, I will investigate further if I can.

Thanks

Yeah, there’s a basic Cubase plugin in the Elgato Marketplace. The Sideshow plugin uses it, so you have to make sure it’s updated, because a lot has changed.

The latest version of the Sideshow FX plugin is Cubase Pro StreamDeck V3.2.2.

If you have the Cubase+MC+Stream+Deck+V2.0.2 (the Mackie Control-based plugin) installed at the same time, that could cause some problems.

Best thing to do is find the “Cubase 12_13_14 Pro Profiles for StreamDeck 3.2.1.pdf” document that’s in your SideshowFX download and follow the Mac installation steps from the beginning.

Here are screenshots of the parts that really need to be correct:

Many thanks for all your help

It appears to be set up as per the above, but I think I will reinstall from scratch following everything to the letter.

I think I’ve found the problem, under Midi Remote Manager, under Midi Devices,

I have 2 identical looking entries for “Track Mix Strip”.

EDIT: MIDI ports are different

I remove one and the problem goes away, Then everything works for a while, then for no apparent reason, the 2nd entry reappears and the problems back. Very weird

Oddly there’s also two entries for my NI S88 keyboard.

Hi,

Since Cubase 14, the MIDI Ports identification has changed due to a bug in the old system. I can also see that the Port names are swapped in both devices:

  • Device A: In name X, Out name: Y.
  • Device B: In name Y, Out name: X.

To me, it looks like it’s related to the change made in Cubase 14.0.40.

My expectation is that one of the devices is the leftover from Cubase 14.0.32 (or older), which should be removed. The other device is the new (correct) one.

Many thanks both of you, I now only have one entry in the Midi Controller section for both my Kontrol S Mk3 and the Streamdeck Track Mix Strip.

Cubase 15 is now working perfectly

Oddly, when I went through the Streamdeck setup from scratch again, it put two entries in again and the problem reappeared, but I deleted the 2nd one and all is fine.

Oddly I’ve just reopened Cubase (I did save before exiting) and both of the extra entries are back, but so far the problem hasn’t returned.

It seems to want two entries for each one for some strange reason

While the duplicate entry is the problem, I’ve removed the Solved for now as I’ve just fired up my MacBook for the day, launched Cubase, and unlike in the above post where the 2nd entry isn’t activated, sadly both were activated and the problem was back, the only way I found to fix is was to remove the SideshowFX script and re-import it and re add the midi remote device.

While this doesn’t take long to do, it’s also a pain.

Incidentally, it now also had 3 entire for my Native Instruments keyed, one active and 2 not active, I removed the two non active ones. This makes me think it isn’t a problem with the Streamdeck script.

It seems weird as to what remote devices I can remove, I didn’t get the option anywhere to remove the second SideshowFX device hence had to delete the script, while I did get the option to remove the two Native Instruments, possibly because the SideshowFX one was activated where ass the 2 Native Instruments ones weren’t.

At least I can quickly go through this once a day and I’m all set.

EDIT: I just closed and reopened the project without exiting Cubase, problems back, another entry there also activated and another non activated Native Instruments one

If you open a project or template that was saved when you had duplicate MIDI remotes, they will come back. See this thread and maybe the other one I mention in the comments, and be sure to use “Save As” to overwrite your project(s).

The duplicates may come back sometime when you’re switching between multiple open projects (haven’t looked into that part yet), but you can easily fix it by closing Cubase and opening the empty template. As for your duplicate Stream Deck remotes–be sure that everything in your config is right, because it shouldn’t be connecting twice on different ports (do you still have the Mackie remote config from the old way of setting it up?). Even when I do get duplicates, the Stream Deck is never affected. Good luck.

Thanks, I will have a play later.

I initially followed this YouTube vid to install Streamdeck
