Cubasis Note Repeat note length/gate time adjustment not available?

Hi! I tried Cubasis LE trial version on my android phone and when using Note Repeat with the built in on screen virtual keyboard playing melodic instruments, it works great but it seems there is no such basic note repeat setting for adjusting length/gate time of repeated notes. By looking at the piano roll of recorded repeated notes generated with Note Repeat function in Cubasis track, it looks like the default setting for note length/gate time is 50%. Am I correct? While this setting is fine with drums, it is not good setting when using note repeat with melodic instruments. Can this setting be adjusted in full paid version of Cubasis so that for example note length/gate time can be adjusted to 99 or 100% so that there is no silence heard between repeated notes and notes connect smoothly in legato style? If not, any chance to add this basic and crucial setting to the Note Repeat in the Cubasis updates? Thanks!

Hi @gorgorsan

Please see my screenshot below, it shows what happens when you enable Note Repeat, on the right of the drop down keyboard you will see a set of repeat timings appear, follow the yellow arrow :+1:

Hi, Mike but this doesn’t work. This is just to set a time division to set the note value of each repeated note. Whatever setting I choose (1/2, 1/4, 1/8, triplet…), the note length/gate time of repeated notes stay the same/are fixed at about 70%. By looking at the piano roll I see that all the recorded repeated notes no matter the time division setting chosen have gate time of about 70%. As I said I would prefer to be able to adjust this setting to 99 or 100% so the repeated notes sound legato, without silences between them.

With repeated ‘legato notes’ there would be no repeats at all?!

It’s easy enough to select all the notes and adjust the length using the tools in the left toolbar. (ie. select all notes, select the length tool on the left side toolbar and swipe left/right in the piano-roll to extend shorten the notes to next/previous grid-step).

Personally I prefer 50% gate-time on repeated notes so I can actually hear each repeat but naturally that requires fairly short release time to avoid sounds bleeding into each other.

Hi! Samuel and thanks for a response. With note repeat I would like to simulate guitar tremolo picking technique. I would use this on MIDI tracks loaded with electric guitar instruments (clear/dry sustain patches) and then add new Amp Rack sims on this tracks to play some black metal hehe where tremolo picking is used most of the time. With tremolo picking the notes are picked fast where previous repeated notes are stopped only with a picking of the following ones and not before, so that’s what I meant with legato, I guess legato is not the right word then. I guess 99% gate time would probably be what I want and not 100%? Anyway, I ask Steinberg to add this adjustment to Note Repeat because this is standard for example on MIDI controllers and AKAI MPCs where they all have gate time adjustment available when using Note Repeat. I know I can adjust the note length of repeated notes after recording is done but would of course prefer to have it pre set in advance to taste. Here at the beginning of the video it shows tremolo picking I want to simulate:

I’d try enabling the sustain pedal while doing the repeats and/or increasing the release time of the sound being used.

Unfortunately many of the sound controls for Halion Sonic are hidden in the automation lane for some odd design reason.

Hi, Samuel and thanks for a suggestions! Just one side question. Since I cannot try this with trial LE version of Cubasis, I wonder if the new Amp Rack sims that come with latest Cubasis 3.8 can for sure also be used on MIDI tracks loaded with electric guitar instruments for example or they can only be used on audio tracks for recording with real guitars? Thanks!

They are effects so you can apply them where you apply any other effect (insert/send).

Ah, I have tried this out, there are two ways to control the Amp Rack in Cubasis 3, one is using MIDI learn with the controls that are able to be learned, the second is Automation for everything like Toggle On/Off all the fx units and all controls, also change Amp and any of its controls and also change Speaker Cabs as the song is playing, all on iOS :+1:

Thanks guys for all the info!
