Cue from unnamed staff

Is there a way to use the pop-up to create a cue when the source staff is unnamed? My solution has been to name the staff, create the cue, and then remove the staff name. Am I missing a more straightforward approach?

You could try entering just a Space as the Staff Label. Then, when entering the Cue popover, inputting Space might be enough?

That was my first thought, but a space didn’t do the trick.

What is the context of all this? What are you trying to notate?

Unison voices accompanied by brass quintet. I don’t have the voices marked since they are obvious. The cues in the brass parts originate from the voice staff. Marking the voice staff something like SATB is an obvious solution, but I wondered if there was a way to make the cues work from an unnamed staff.

What you could do is:

  • Label the vocal Instrument however you like
  • Label the vocal Player with a Space

  • Change Staff Labels for that stave to use the Player name

And the result:

Hi Bill,

Are you wanting the cue not to show a name of the source? Another way to achieve this is to edit the cue in the properties panel and set the start text to blank. That way you can name the source instrument however you like and its name won’t show in the cue.

You can do this collectively for all your cues by selecting everything in the flow and then going to edit > filter > cues before opening the properties panel.

I think what Bill is after is finding something to enter into the popover, whilst having no staff label, and avoiding the manual editing you mentioned.

Thanks, Richard, but Daniel is correct that I needed something to enter into the pop-tart. Very clever solution, Daniel.

Great, thanks Bill.
