Hello - I’m trying to figure out how to make notes smaller without changing the size of the system. This is just to give a player a visual cue warning of a few bars before they are to play their (regular size) notes. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Use the built in cue function in the score with shift-U. Select the passage in the score, Shift-U and enter the part name where you want the cue.

Here’s a Marimba cue in a flute part. The cues wont show in the score by default
but they can be turned on in Layout Options->Players->Cues
Turned on in the score:
Hey Jesper, thank you for the quick reply. I’ve done what you showed, and also turned on the option in Layout…but the size of the notes didn’t change. I selected the notes, did command-U it brought up the little cue icon - I typed in bass (for this option) but the size didn’t change nor did it show “bass” – as in your marimba example. What might I be missing I wonder…
Did you enter the cue in the score in the staff that needs the bass cue?
Or was it the bass that needed some other instrument cue?
Also normally you don’t want cues in the score.
Jesper
Well maybe I’m trying to do something that isn’t exactly right in this case. Basically, I’m in a lead sheet and I wrote some bass notes that I want to be smaller so as not to be confused with the melody notes/size after the intro. So, not exactly the same as the cue notes in a part - but since the part and score are the same, I thought this might work. I think I’m wrong! In Finale, I would have changed the percentage of these notes to like 75%…
Ah, I see, then just select the notes and to the left in the lower panel you can change size to cue size.
Jesper
Oh my God. Thank you. I’m sorry to have wasted some minutes of your time on this! But I greatly appreciate it. Thanks again. Bob
Well, then you know how to do it with a larger score also.
Jesper
True – I hope someday to get there! I’ve been afraid of the lower panel. This was a nice intro. I appreciate it. Bob
@bobwalton60 If you’re going to mark a post as the solution, can you please mark one of @jesele 's posts, instead of your own (which isn’t really the solution)?
I guess I also don’t know how to use the forum correctly! So you click on the person who gives you the solution? I thought it applied to the thread. I’ll do it when I get back to my computer. Thanks.
