Just posted this in the Cubase forum, inadvertently. But the request stands: having the option in preferences to choose behavior, and it being pre-fader by default. Time saver, as almost always cue levels will be independent of mix levels.
Select Quick Link on the mixer, select all tracks, click the pre-fader button on the Cue Sends. Done.
That’s a workaround I already do, but it’s clumsy because:
- you have no option to choose all tracks, there isn’t such function or key command,which in a 200+ tracks project becames a real problem (and it’s a blatant flaw key-command-wise);
- In such conditions, with the mixer narrowed down, it’s next to impossible to click the pre-fader switch, for which, sadly, there isn’t a key command also.
You can go to the playlist and hit Ctrl A, all tracks are selected.
Hit the E on any track to bring up the inspector window, click on pre-fader for Cues there.
A lot of steps when a simple option in preferences would suffice. And if I hit ctrlA on the project window (don’t really know what is the playlist), all events get selected, not tracks. I obviously made a macro including PLE long ago for all track selection, and mapped it to a key in my Midi Remote device, but it is a convoluted workaround with all the q-link, mouse clicking in E or the mix console - if it’s not too zoomed out, otherwise impossible - you get the picture. It’s a real time saver, and your (very welcomed!) options just don’t cut it, in my opinion.
Template?
I’ll be honest, I can do this in under 5 seconds. ![]()
But you still have to do it every time you add a new track, right?
Best regards,
Johannes
Also wish we had more than 4 cue sends…
Miguel, what are you trying to do with this method? It might take time to put all the cues in pre-fader but then you have time to do a monitor mix with 200 tracks? Do you select “use current mix and pan levels to start?
In the studio pre and post cues are both common but ideally they are usually post fader. If someone wants something more you just push up that cue send on the track. I assume this is just for recording.
Yes, I use the mix levels to start with. The main thing is not having my mix levels interfering with the artist’s when recording. I solo them, or engage the listen bus, change mix levels to better hear what they do or to better fit them in the mix, and in post-fader I can’t do any of that. Having pre-fader is effectively having two separate paths that don’t interfere with each other. And it must surely be something very simple to implement.
