I would like to propose an engraving setting for rhythmic cues, to have the same voice column index as slash notation — so that any rhythmic cues in the drumset or elsewhere line up vertically with the slashes. Right now it needs to be adjusted manually in the engraving mode (to 1)

You can also change the slash region’s voice direction to down in properties, and any rhythmic cues above the staff will align more automatically.
This is a good workaround, thanks! I long for a systemic solution to this (either default Voice column index for cues, or slashes defaulting to down all the time)
Yes, it doesn’t work in every situation, for example: when there are cues both above and below the staff, which is very common, there’s no automatic alignment without tinkering with voice columns.
