Hi everybody, I know this type of question has been asked here before, and I am attempting the workarounds I can find, but I’m not yet having success. So I’ve created a percussion layout based on 3 separate percussion players. This is the percussion part from a larger orchestral score. They are all unpitched, so I have added a treble staff as a player, then assigned that player to the percussion layout. I have selected the treble staff player to be assigned to flow 3, which is the only part of the score where these instruments play.
When I attempt to use ctrl+U to add cues to the treble staff – whether in the full score or in the part, nothing shows up. It won’t insert any cues at all. I have added the treble player to the full score layout also, hoping that it was actually an instrument in the orchestra, it would function like one. But again, I get get any cues to show up when I add them to this player in the full score, or when I attempt to add a cue in the percussion layout. What am I missing here?
Holy cow! That worked! I don’t think I would have EVER noticed/discovered that! Thank you so much! Why or why doesn’t Dorico have this option automatically enabled?
It’s not there by default in the Full score. I think because a conductor don’t have to see a Violin Cue in the Horn section, the conductor just sees the violin notes on the violin staff
Every concert band template should have this on by default, as most cues in band scores are playing cues since we often need other instruments to cover what’s missing or help along what can’t be heard with the original. As a conductor, I need to see who is covering for which instrument during rehearsal. As a composer for band, all my cues are always in the score unless they are specifically non-playing cues–which is rare unless it’s for a percussionist with really long rests.
I assume Dorico doesn’t have a better way to handle this type of situation yet correct? I mean, I have a percussion score with all unpitched percussion, but I want to be able to indicate cues. But without adding another staff, there’s no way to do that if I want pitch contour in the cues, right? My editor says doing it this was is very unusual but it seems like this is the only way to do it in Dorico. Am I missing something?
