This is interesting, as it didn’t work for me. I may have used a combination that didn’t cover the spec that you’ve highlighted in your post, and gives hope where I thought there was none. Well done 
and happy to be corrected on this one.
Still, I fear there would be issues with support longer term, but as a way to get out of an unexpected bind, it certainly helps.
Steinberg discontinued this one, no parts are going to be available for repair, development and support. Easier the rip the bandaid now and switch to something else honestly.
Curious to know if you miss the Cubase integration at all? That’s the main thing keeping me on the AXR4U for the moment. How does the Fireface compare in that regard, if at all?
In the beginning I did, but 2 months in I got used to it. The pros of the Fireface 3 trumps the AXR4’s integration with Cubase in my opinion. It does take a learning curve but once you really learned Totalmix, it’s absolutely insane
It’s true, Steinberg let its customers down with the AXR4! The updates were more for show than actual updates.
I’ve also gone back to RME, rock solid, and mostly with over a decade of driver and firmware support. RME also has solid customer support, mostly from technicians and developers themselves. For Steinberg and Yamaha, AXR4 customers are simply a collateral damage.

Hello everyone. I would like to ask if there is any information about a further update of the AXR4U
Steinberg discontinued the AXR and dropped support a couple years ago. I switched to RME UFX 3, same exact inputs and outputs so it was plug and play and never looking back.
The last updates for AXR is ready from 9 october 2025, CHECK ON BOTH PRODUCT PAGES, STEINBERG AND YAMAHA
They’re supporting this product!!!

It looks like they just fixed some minor bugs but no actual developement
Too late for me, I already sold them for next to nothing, but good for everyone who kept them. I’m still extremely angry with Steinberg for letting their customers down like that.
However, no update for Mac Intel users on OSX… (SEQUOIA)
