Cursor (select arrow)

Cursor (select arrow)

I don’t really understand what the meaning of using the arrow when entering notes is. Sometimes it’s active, sometimes it’s inactive. I admit that it confuses me a lot. Can someone explain it to me? I know it’s basic but I’m just starting my adventure with Dorico - after switching from Finale 27.

Basically, when the arrow (also called Select Tool) is highlighted, note input via the mouse is deactivated (and viceversa).

Thank you very much.

Make sure you do the Quick Start Tutorial, and watch the excellent videos on Note Entry (as well as many other things) on the Dorico YouTube channel.

To be honest, I never really pay the arrow icon any attention, and I never press it.
