HI ASM, appreciate you looking into this . Tried to attach to a reply within the forum but a) I had to rename to xml and b) it’s 9mb an d the forum only accepts 4mb so hope this one method gets thropugh.
failed. it says i can private message you. How do I do that? TBH I thought that’s what the last one but it has stripped the attached file. Presumably due to the file type or size but that time it didn’t say there was any problem when actually sending
IMPORTANT:
Do you have any copy of ControlRoomPresets.pxml in the folder %AppData%\Steinberg\Cubase 14_64\Presets, regardless of the name?
If so, be sure to delete it. I noticed that C14 also takes presets from it!
I have created a new ControlRoomPresets.pxml file that contains only two presets: Default and C Room Simon1. Both presets are identical except for the names and IDs. Replace the file in the folder with the new one and start Cubase. No further Default preset entries should be created, as the file is write-protected. If you want to create new presets, you’ll have to remove the write protection.
Dear ASM, I can’t thank you enough for sticking with this and n ow you’ve solved the problem. If cubase is taking info from the like of controlroompresets_old as well as controlroompresets this will explain it. What a bizzarre algorithm. When I upgraded to a New Windows11 PC and cb 14 copied over a lot of these preferences type files while renaming the default files with _old in case there was a problem. Is that the basis of the bug fix in CB15 do you think. It seems a dangerous algorithm. Knowing this maybe I can take the write protection off. I’ll keep your version in a safe place. Now whenever I open a
forgot to say, I deleted my _copy file and all works perfectly now. My list of preset files , in addition to the list you give, also has Guitarlib.xml and Score Custom Palettes.xml
This bizarre behavior may also apply to other preset files. As a precaution, I’d move or delete all files that are not absolutely necessary for operation (since renaming them is obviously not enough!).
I think you can remove the write protection; without the “Zombie Files” , everything should work as expected.
