Hello!
I am writing fingerings for a new instrument, the Glissotar.
It is a woodwind instrument with a longitudinal gap covered by a magnetic strap. See more:
I have to create a new fingering method for this, and I decided to call the fingers like this:
Left hand
1 - index
2 - middle
3 - ring
4 - little
Right hand
5 - index
6 - middle
7 - ring
8 - little
When I tried to write in the numbers for the fingering in Dorico, I noticed that it works 1-6 only, it does not shows 7 and 8.
Is there a possibility to do this?
Thank you

That’s a super cool instrument!!!
You can create custom playing techniques with the Unicode U+ED26 (for 8). But I think there may be another way to do it since there are symbols for the numbers 8 and 9.
In my Dorico project the fingering “7” works.
Fingering 8.dorico (468.8 KB)
Thank you, I am happy you’re like it!
You’re right, 7 works, only 8 is a problem. How can enter the Unicode? I use a Mac.
I found numbers from 0-9 in the playing techniques under Guitar, but they are inside of a circle.
I started to use Lyrics, it seems to be a solution too, but it put the numbers under.
Thanks a lot!
In the document that I have attached, I have done it for you. You can copy and paste the playing technique into your project, or save it to favorites so you can have it in all your projects.
I think there is a way to implement the 8. It would be to replace the fingering 0 with the 8 and then you could enter it in the popover menu
How can I replace it? I am not familiar with Dorico as much…
It works!
Thank you for help!
It was very quick!

The pleasure is mine, to be able to help with new instrument creations!
Hello! I have the same problem here. I am writing for the LinnStrument and I want to notate fingerings. Now, the LinnStrument has 8 rows of notes and most notes can be found on multiple rows, like in a guitar. So I need to notate the row (1 to 8) and the finger (1 to 5). I am using the notation Row(Finger) using Dorico’s alternate fingering, so if I have to input a note that is meant to be played on row 7 with the 3rd finger, I would write 7(3).
The problem is again that only finger number 1-7 are supported. The workaround proposed by @bernatcucarella is great, but it’s still a workaround.
I understand Dorico’s philosophy of mapping every possible musical notation onto a feature in the software, but sometimes when you want to write something unconventional… it’s a pain in the neck. Here maybe there is no need to be so strict and forbid numbers 8 and 9. Give us those extra fingers
