Hi, is it possible to have overlapping velocity zones in Groove Agent Kits, either SE or full version? If yes, I’m struggling to figure out how to do it. I have SE 6 and a trial version of 5, which I’m evaluating to see if it might meet my needs.
I’m looking to create custom kits with multiple dynamic layers and round robins (e.g 4 dynamic layers, 8 rr each layer).
I really like many aspects of GA and the updates with SE 6 are nice as is integration with Cubase mixer and drum maps, but if this isn’t possible I’ll have to pass.
On a related note, does Halion integrate with Cubase’s drum maps? Might it be a better tool for what I’m trying to achieve?
Kind regards.
interesting question.
a quick look at LLM says its not possible. but it sounds like Halion does support it.
”What the Manual Says About Velocity Zones in Groove Agent
-
In the Mapping View, you can assign multiple samples to one pad and set a velocity range (“Lo” / “Hi”) for each. Steinberg Support+2Manualsnet+2
-
However:
“Changing the velocity range of a sample automatically adapts adjacent samples, that is, velocity ranges cannot overlap.” Steinberg Support+1
-
So, if you try to drag a zone such that its range overlaps another, Groove Agent will push the zones so they don’t overlap.”
What are you trying to do exactly and why are you doing it?
Thanks, that confirms my findings as well in messing around with the GA5 demo, looking over the manual, and chatting with LLMs (which almost always give dodgy advice).
What I want to do is resample a bunch of my commercial cinematic percussion libraries for ease of access and easy editing within the sampler — e.g one GA kit for all my epic toms, another for all my low hits, and so on. I really like the way GA exports a drum map to Cubase, and there are many nice features within the sampler that I’d like to take advantage of. I often find when I’m programming samples that I’d like to just adjust an envelope for one sound and so forth. Going under the hood in Kontakt isn’t the most fun.
But with with the way GA seems to be set up I can’t have 4 dynamic layers with 8 rr each, all from within a single pad. I also couldn’t figure out a way to limit the velocity range of a single pad so that it only triggers on e.g velocity 1-45, which would allow me to map different velocity layers to different pads but set the pads to the same trigger key.
Thanks again for reporting your findings!
