Hullo all,
This has probably come up multiple times, but I haven’t been able to find a forum discussion that quite matches my issue (and the various videos haven’t helped either). I’m probably missing something very obvious, as software mechanics are not my forte. Anyhow:
I’m creating some expression maps for the old Xsample Chamber Ensemble, and for the most part it’s going fine, but when I have to create a new playing technique I don’t seem to be able to get it to affect the playback. I decided to test creating a ‘bowed’ technique for the vibraphone. Steps I’ve taken:
- Create ‘bowed’ playing technique
- Create linked playback technique
- Create expression map with ‘bowed’ switch, as well as natural and harmonics
Just to note, when auditioning it here, the bowed patch sounds just fine.
- Throw some random notes into the score and see what happens
If you look at the playing techniques in the key editor, you’ll note that they do change for the harmonics, but not for the bowed technique.
The only difference I’ve been able to see is that the harmonics technique already existed in the Dorico presets, while the bowed one didn’t. If I switch the expression map so that ‘natural’ is set to the bowed patch, it all comes out bowed, so either my playing technique isn’t triggering my playback technique or the playback technique isn’t triggering my expression map.
What am I missing? (Ideally in simple language, as I say, this is not my forte!)
Many thanks!
P.S.: Oh, yes, I did read the forum guidelines, so here’s the project as well, though I’m not sure how useful it will be if you don’t also own XCE.
