Custom VST plugins paths?

I would like Dorico to look at a custom directory for VST3 and VST2.

Currently, it is parsing my huge collection of plugins I use for Cubase, and this causes delays and unwieldy drop-downs.

The “VST2 Plug-in Paths” button in preferences seems to be greyed out.

How can I set a new VST plugin path please?

VST3 does not support custom paths for plug-ins: everything has to be in the proper place.

You can probably edit the vst3blacklist.xml file in ~/Library/Preferences/VSTAudioEngine3/VSTAudioEngine3 VST3 Cache to force Dorico not to load certain VST3 plug-ins, but I’m afraid I’m not clear on exactly how to do this.

Thanks. Why can’t i change the VST2 path?

You can’t do it on macOS because VST 2.x plug-ins are also always read from a fixed location, /Library/Audio/Plug-ins/VST, but on Windows as far as I know you should be able to do it. Try opening a project if you haven’t already got one open, then open the Preferences dialog again.

So presumably on MacOS, the alternative is to blacklist the VST2s that you don’t want in Dorico?
