This is a question/request for the developers of Dorico: is there any way you could make rehearsal marks easily customizable like they were in Sibelius?
Customizable in what way?
In Sibelius you could do Text → Special text → Rehearsal marks and then write whatever you want, such as Intro, Solo, Chorus 2 or STOP, you name it. These are rehearsal marks just as much as the typical A, B and C used in classical scores. In order to achieve the same in Dorico one must either use a (please developers, don’t be insulted) ridiculous workaround or use plain text instead which one then has to tweak to look the same as an “actual” rehearsal mark Dorico makes. I’ve had plenty of advice and suggestions from the most helpful forum members (to whom I owe my deepest gratitude) for the various workarounds, but was wondering if the developing team had plans to implement this request of mine so that we wouldn’t have to work around anything,
It’s certainly been mentioned before, so I’m sure it’s on the list for consideration, at least.
I would also welcome the feature: but it’s pretty easy to make a Paragraph Style for System Text that matches the Rehearsal Marks style. You can then save it as a default.
One of these is a Rehearsal Mark; the other is System Text. No tweaking required!
I’m glad to hear the development team is aware of this request!
(And personally I wouldn’t consider this a workaround. These section labels aren’t actually rehearsal marks, so system text seems quite appropriate. I might even call using rehearsal marks a workaround for section labels!)
One could look at it from that perspective, yes. But I like the functionality the rehearsal marks provide which mere system text doesn’t. And since I’ve always used section labels and rehearsal marks interchangeably, and since Sibelius did provide this possibility, it is something I hope will be implemented in future Dorico updates.
