Customize Send Position per Insert Slot

We have the option of putting sends Post Fader or Pre Fader

What I would really find useful, is the ability to place a Send somewhere in the insert chain.

For example, Perhaps the lead vocal has a distortion plugin on Insert 5, but maybe I want to send a clean signal to a reverb. I want to place a Send before Insert 5, and after Insert 4.

Theoretically, this could be done for both Pre-Fader and Post-Fader inserts.

  • User right clicks a send
  • Selects an insert position
    • Depending on what Insert position the user places the send, it will automatically flip from pre/post fader depending on where the user has place the post-fader line designator.
    • The send switches to a red hue and two numbers appear in the send graphic: 4|5 (between insert 4 and 5)
    • Depending on whether pre/post fader - this number will appear either to the left or to the right of the pre/post symbol on the send.

also, a line could appear in tthe inserts signaling a send is placed there

Allow mix engineers to develop their own technical/creative signal topologies instead of confining the digital world to old analog console tech from 40 years ago.

An important note,

that without this feature, to do this kind of work, users have to setup a series of group splitting tracks and or fx tracks in series…

Which carries its own set up problems with solo/mute states as seen here (see video 3)

Anyone find mute/solo states aren’t functioning the way you expect them to when folders involved? - Cubase - Steinberg Forums

Just an after thought here,

I didn’t think about how this would work with TrackFreezing and what the protocl would be.

a.) It would either have to create additional freeze files up to and per each insert-placed send… Which would add to Freeze rendering time.

Insert 1
Insert 2
Insert-Send 1
Insert 3
Insert 4
Insert 5
Insert-Send 2

would =

Freeze File 1 (insert 1->2)
Insert Send 1
Freeze File 2 (insert 3->4->5)
Insert-Send 2

or…

b.) Freeze track would only render up to the first insert-placed send, just like how Post-Fader inserts currently don’t render as part of a freeze.

Perhaps it could be a preference:

  • Track Freeze: Freeze up to each insert-send sequentially (Warning: Increases Freeze render time)
  • Track Freeze: Freeze up to first insert-send only
