There is a conflict between “cutaway” and “brackets”. In systems with cutaways, it is not possible to make changes to brackets, nor are brackets taken into account that were manually added or removed earlier on for any staff group (even far away from the cutaway, “Soli” group in the example below, left side). If you try to change a bracket in such a system with cutaway, nothing seems to happen. However, a signpost does appear and the change takes effect – but only from the next system onwards which does not have a cutaway.
As a solution to this, there is an engraving option for cutaways, “With brackets” (right side of the example). This handles the brackets quite normally and as expected. However, a clef then appears at the start of every staff that includes a cutaway, which is not necessarily desired here. It would be nice if this clef could be controlled independently via a separate option.
