Dark Menus and High Contrast (Windows)?

Hey all

I have up to the version 8 of Cubase (Artist) but when I try to open Cubase 8 it says that I’m not able to use a High Contrast theme (Cubase 7.5 and below worked fine). And from what I’ve read online it seems like all the newer versions of Cubase behave the same way. Is this true? I hope, I am wrong.

I have used High Contrast themes in Windows (from XP to 7 to now 10) for as long as I remember to relieve my eyes discomfort, and the thought of having to switch to a regular white Windows theme every single time I have to use Cubase is not very appealing to me. Especially when all the menus (and many other interface elements) remain white. For me it defeats the purpose of having a “dark mode” theme - because Cubase’s dark interface looks pretty awesome, otherwise.

Also, when I looked at some Youtube videos of newer versions of Cubase, Mac users seem to have dark menus and also dark Preferences and Keyboard Shortcuts windows. Why can’t Windows users also have that? Is it because it’s so hard for Steinberg to fix? Or do they simply don’t care?

I would love to upgrade my Cubase to the newest version, but it worries me that they still haven’t fixed it - that you still have to switch your entire theme just for one program. I have never seen any other software that demands that you switch over from a High Contrast to a regular Windows theme.

If no version of Cubase (beyond 8) is capable of running on a High Contrast Windows theme, is there at least a fix or a workaround to remedy this, and to make at least some of the menu elements have a background color other than just white?
