Hello!
Any suggestions for how I could go about making a dashed left barline?
Welcome to the forum @dwbrallier!
Just to be sure, you mean between systems?
Yes. For use when the same accompaniment is used for verses where the melody differs and stacking saves space.
That isn’t really a barline between different systems, is it? I assume you have three versions of the verse, all played with the same accompaniment, so you actually are showing a single system with four players, one holding a keyboard/piano/organ, and three holding voice instruments.
Unfortunately, however, there’s no way to show the gaps between staves in the systemic barline at the start of the system using dashes.
If this is something you can do, you could open the PDF in Illustrator or another vector drawing program, select the systemic barline on each page and change its stroke options to dashed.
If the document is big, though, this could be cumbersome.
Thank you for the reply.
In Finale this was achieved by creating an expression comprised of short, white, thick lines arranged vertically which masked the systemic barline. It was the only workaround we could find.
It would be great if the option to affect the appearance of systemic barlines was added to Dorico at some point in the future.
