Default Instrument Name Label

I want to change the instrument label to say Horn 1 in F, not Horn in F I. I have tried various methods in Setup & Layout Options. Also, in Setup, the Layouts panel shows more than 1 instrument for each Layout. Please help!

  • To get rid of the second instrument go to Setup Mode, select the layout on the right side and uncheck the second instrument on the left side.

  • To show the instrument number before the transposition check this checkbox in Layout Options > Staves and Systems > Pitch and Transposition

  • To get arabic numbers instead of roman change this setting in Engraving Options > Staff Labels

Further I removed the staff labels except the first system, reset the layout, changed the rastral size to fit the music on three pages and removed the page override by editing the First page template and hiding the flow heading.

Notes:

  • To fit the horn 1 part on one page set the Default space for crotchet / quarter note in Layout Options > Note Spacing to 3 7/8 spaces.

  • To show the arranger on the left in the parts put the text into the Lyricist field and remove the page override. It’s highly recommended to edit the page template, a page override is bad habit and should only be used if there is no other choice.

  • If you want Horn 1 in F also as layout name, double-click the layout in Setup Mode and edit it.

(You might also want to use single players rather than section players for your horns. That’ll give you the Arabic numbers by default.)

Thanks for your help. Almost all of your tips worked but I believe that I need Dorico Pro to change Roman numerals to Arabic because I can’t find that choice on Elements.

Thanks.
