Default MIDI Output For Imported Tracks?

I’ve done this three times today.
I have my preferences set to import MIDI to MIDI tracks. However, when I drag a MIDI track in, the output defaults to my SUB 37 port. I have the SUB 37 configured as an external instrument but no tracks are using it in my project.

What happens is, if I modify the MIDI clip, it tries to send MIDI to the SUB 37 which then hangs Cubase. Here’s the stack trace:
ntdll!NtWaitForSingleObject+0x14
KERNELBASE!WaitForSingleObjectEx+0x9f
wdmaud!CMIDIOutDevice::WriteEvent+0xa8
wdmaud!CMIDIOutDevice::PlayMIDIEvent+0xbf
wdmaud!HwModMessage+0x13b
wdmaud!CDigitalAudio::Init+0x3670
WINMMBASE!midiMessage+0xa6
WINMMBASE!midiOutShortMsg+0x8d
Cubase9+0x377fa8

The SUB 37 external instrument plugin works fine, if it’s instantiated.
Is there a way to tell Cubase to import all MIDI as “Not Connected”? I don’t want to turn audio feedback off.
If I forget to reroute the MIDI output (which I’ve done 3 times today), I always get a hang.
Thanks

Hi,

Could you share the whole dump with me via PM and Dropbox, please?

Unfortunately, you cannot set Cubase to use “Not Connected” MIDI port while import MIDI.
