Andrew, if you stay in Note Input Mode, Dorico will stick to your last note lenght. That will be quite helpful in your case.
Right.
Exactly for this reason I changed my habit to navigate thru the staves just with the arrow keys as much as possible while being in note input mode. I admit it took a while, but thatās a reasonable way to keep the current note length.
That would be very limiting. Why cannot you recognize that this is actual experience and a frequent annoyance with what is a package I have recommended to other ex Sibelius users, over, for example, MuseScore? Once you have entered a note of the wrong length, with āduration before pitchā then you canāt simply hit the key for the duration you meant to enter to correct that error. I understood this forum was helpful for Dorico staff in understanding the needs and frustrations of frequent users, who are not exactly new to computer music. If you seek to silence those opinions, will they get that feedback?

Thank you for a positive suggestion. That doesnāt really work for me as, writing string music, to keep up with recent bars I often have to go back out of note input mode to select a set of notes to slur together, or to make more fancy changes such as modifying the beaming against the time signature or layout defaults. In Martinu, for example. So really I am not asking for a workaround but like others in this thread suggesting a more fundamental fix at the application level.

I donāt think @k_b is trying to silence you, heās just suggesting another way to work (around). Heās not staff either , Steinberg employees can be identified on this forum by the little Steinberg logo on their avatars.
By the way, since this is a public forum, I recommend to edit your posts to remove your phone number.
