Default saved part layout won't show up

Okay, I’m a relatively new user, but I just can’t figure this out. I have saved layout settings for default and default full score. (Specifically, I don’t want the “flow” info to show up when I print.) I can fix it for one part, but when I go to another, the default settings don’t show up. Why won’t the saved default settings apply to other parts in the same piece?

Welcome to the forum, @Cheryl_Armstrong!

Can you give a little more information about what you changed? Did you change this setting in Layout Options > Page Setup > Flows?

Or did you edit something in the Default part layout page template?

I’ve been changing the settings you show, but I’m not sure how to answer your question. I do it by editing a part, using those settings, and then choosing save to default.

It’s my understanding that anything you save as default settings only applies to new projects, not existing ones and not project templates.

@JAMES_GILBERT is right. If you change that setting, hit Apply, and then Save as Default, it’s only saved as a default for future projects – the current project has already inherited the previous default.

As the name implies, layout options are layout-specific. If you want to change a setting for all layouts in the current project, you have to make sure they’re all selected in the right-hand panel of the options dialog before you change the setting and hit Apply.

You can do this by Ctrl+clicking or Shift+clicking items in the list, or by using the Select All Part Layouts button in the lower right.

Thank you. That helps. I didn’t realize it would apply to only new files.

So I managed to get all the parts in one song the way I want them by doing “propogate.”

Is there no way to save this as new layout and then APPLY it to the songs already created? Or do I have to start from ground zero, layout-wise, for each song?

There is no command to apply some setting to a batch of existing projects – you need to open each project and make the changes you want. If it’s just one setting, then changing it directly is probably the most efficient; if it’s a number of settings, you can use the Library Manager to transfer those settings from another project.

If you’re talking about the page templates used in a layout, you can export those from one project as a page template set and then import them into other projects.

Thank you. Didn’t realize formatting the way I want would be so tedious! Guess I’ll get busy. I really appreciate the quick responses.
