I’ll apologize upfront for the dumb question, but it’s one that I can’t search for because it’s difficult to explain. And this forum is fantastic at answering questions!
What parameter (in general) in a delay effect should be adjusted when you need more of a sound, let’s say a word, captured in the repeat.
My example, if a singer is singing the word “Cubase” and I put one of the delays on this word because I want it to repeat a few times while trailing off. I tend to only get the “ase” in “cubase” captured. I hope that make sense.
Instead of “CUBASE…Cubase…cubase”, I get “CUBASE…ase…ase”
This seems to happen to every type of delay I try, but I know it’s just something I’m missing.
This technique is often referred to as a “delay throw”.
The typical setup is having the Delay plugin on an FX channel and use a Send to feed signal from your source track to the delay.
Then you would automate the Send Level on your source track to go from -∞dB to somewhere between -6 and 0dB(?).
It would look something like this:
I was trying to do a work around because I didn’t know any better and created a second track with just the word I wanted repeated. I just put the delay on the fx chain.
Thanks for the reply!
That is equally possible. In case you change any settings on the first track you should not forget to make the same changes to the second track as well. If you use the Send FX method you would not have to worry about that.
