Excellent. Now, how do I delete this particular slur without my score turning into some kind of crammed mess as pictured below?

Have you made any manual staff spacing changes in Engrave mode?

Can you upload a cut-down project that exhibits this problem? Just for diagnosis.

Yes. Just on page one since for some reason the SATB staves were too widely spaced somehow after completing my arrangement! I had a ton of slurs that deleted just fine, but this one in particular is giving me the headache.

What is a cut-down project and how would I upload that?

Delete everything after this section, resave, and attach here using the upload button… if the file is too large to upload, there are more options… let me know.

The system won’t let me upload what I have.

Going to the ENGRAVE menu within Engrave mode > Staff Spacing > Reset Layout solved the problem, and I was able to delete that last slur. Thank you!

It’s always worth reviewing other options before dragging staves in Engrave mode a long way from their default positions.

For example, Library > Layout Options > Vertical Spacing has some really powerful settings. Make sure the Ideal Gaps are as small as you’d accept, and let Dorico add extra space on top of that for protruding notes/notations.

If those settings suit most of the layout but page 1 is left widely spaced (eg because 3 systems fit on other pages, but only 2 fit on page 1 but they’re overly spaced) you could do something like edit the First page template, and make the music frame a bit shorter (to narrow the space within with the systems on p1 can justify).

I’m guessing that Dorico was trying to justify one system across a large vertical area (because two systems didn’t fit, due to the titling).

IF you’re coming from Finale, your first instinct will be to start moving things manually: but in Dorico, that’s the last option, and usually reserved for small fine-tuning.

Better to reduce the size of the Music Frame on the page. (And do this on the Page Template, not the page itself!)
