I’ve posted before about the same error, which hasn’t been resolved. I demand that at least someone who understands this issue can provide a solution.
I’ll try to explain the problem again. I apologize if something isn’t clear, as I’m not fluent in English.
Here’s the situation: I create a new project, import some tracks, and start editing them. As I make several edits, I bounce the track so that it remains as a single file. If I need to edit it again, I bounce it again. I do this for all the tracks that need it. The problem is that when I go to the pool and click “delete all unused files” (remove from pool), Cubase can crash. It doesn’t happen every time, but it does. It’s been happening since Cubase 14.
I just tested it with no preferences and no third-party plugins. The same thing happens (the last IPS file I attached shows everything at default settings).
Sometimes these crashes result in the loss of some files, which is unacceptable, of course.
I wonder if there is an OS level problem here, since this happens upon doing a file operation, especially since I haven’t seen other reports of this crash in the forum.
Have you been able to make this happen in a nearly empty project? (for the purpose strictly to troubleshoot)
I am not on MacOS unfortunately, so don’t have troubleshooting expertise on that platform.
I edited your title to attract replies from knowledgeable Mac users
The problem with this is that when you reopen the project, you might see a message to search for missing files. If you look at the project, you’ll see an event, but without any information, which means the final result has been lost.
Another aspect that needs improvement is that when you delete unused files (from the pool), some references to files that are no longer there, such as “track images” or files in the “edits” folder, remain. This means the project folder can become quite large.
I recommend doing this test with a project that takes up some space. Open Cubase and create a backup from the FILE menu > Back up project. Check the box to delete unused files.
Result: Comparing the two project folders will show you how much space they are actually using.
This afternoon I was with a client for a 3-song session on my studio computer, which is running Windows 11. Guess what? The same error reappeared.
I’ve attached a screenshot and the DMP file.
Imagine my face explaining to the client that I might have to redo some takes… thankfully, everything was saved.
Dear Steinberg, I learned to use this method and adopted it out of habit after using a pirated copy of Cubase SX3. When Cubase 5 came out, I used it legitimately with a friend’s dongle until I could buy my version 8 in the box (which I still have). I’ve been paying for my updates and all my software ever since.
What I mean is, is paying for the software the same as not paying for it? Why are there errors that aren’t fixed, or even addressed? This has been happening to me since Cubase 14, since the day it was released. Is this normal? Isn’t this a priority?
I know crashes are important to the dev team, It might be worth a support ticket, then at least you will be having a conversation with the staff, and not only other users.
I’ll try to repro it myself when I have time though.
Actual files disappear from the OS file system, or from th epool?
I would create a ticket, but since others have done so and haven’t received a response, where does that leave me?
Are you, as a company, unwilling to provide me with a copy of Nuendo? So I can at least see (which I’m almost certain) that the same issue exists? I’d be happy to receive it, even if it’s a non-refundable copy (NFR).
If you’ve followed my previous threads, I seem to recall that Martin Jirsak reported these errors to the development team. THEY HAVE NOT BEEN FIXED.
I’ve requested a full refund and reported problems in the IC Pro app. They haven’t been improved or fixed… Now I’m using free, third-party software for those tasks.
At this point, I’m a frustrated and angry customer of Steinberg. Yes, but the user should be aware of this.
You replied to my post - see my profile, I am not with Steinberg
I’ve tried to help you get this issue noticed though, by editing your title to this thread which resulted in @Norbury_Brook replying with his confirmation of the problem, so even though I’m not on the Dev team, or employed by Steinberg, you are being heard.
You refer to other topics - you don’t provide links though.
Anyone can download a 60 day trial of Nuendo, though I doubt that would provide any other info.
I have not. This topic is all the information I have.
I’m sorry, Steve, if I misunderstood you. I thought you had “something to do” with Steinberg. I’m just so frustrated and in a bad mood. I apologize if I came across as rude. That’s certainly not my intention.
I’ve talked about this so many times since I started having this problem that I don’t know what to do anymore. Changing DAWs at this point is practically impossible, although I’m still considering it… because the situation is getting to me.
Thanks for choosing a better title. Hopefully, someone from the Steinberg team will contact me so I can explain the situation or whatever.
