Concerning your first issue, please refer to this thread.
Concerning the second, the delete button on the secondary toolbar (the one with the trash can icon) is the one you should be using to delete selected notes; the “backspace” button in the lower zone toolbar is meant to be used only during note input (i.e. when the caret is visible).
