How do I delete a bar?

In Input Mode. Shift-B then type -1.
(also +1, -20 etc and things like || or 
)
After writing and deleting a much longer post, my question comes to:
I understand that exiting input mode is escape, but how do you delete a bar in the middle of a system/section/piece?
You input your caret where you want the deletion to happen, and then shift+B, -1 in the popover…
