I can delete content from selected bars with the command < delete > so I was searching for a command to delete the bars with a modifier e.g. < modifier > + < delete >
Is that possible or why not? It seems to me more functional consistent.

You can either use the Shift+B popover, or the system track:
You could also select all in those bars, activate Insert Mode (Global) and press Delete. But I’d rather recommend one of the two above mentioned methods.
IMHO because it’s much more destructive to delete bars with a keystroke than some notes (despite the undo insurance).
I appreciate the intermediate popover or system track step.
In addition to the suggestions from other users, you can assign your own shortcut to the Delete Bars command in Preferences > Key Commands.
There’s a “Delete bars” command in the Edit menu.
