Deleting Custom Chord Symbols

When I upgraded from DORICO PRO 5 to DORICO PRO 6 many of my chord symbols got messed up.

At this point I just want to delete all my custom chord symbols.

How do i delete my custom chord symbols? I go in to ‘Project Default Chord Symbol Appearances’, click on a chord symbol but the trash can icon does not illuminate so I do not know how to delete it. In addition, i click on the question mark icon and I get a message ‘The document you are looking for has been moved or deleted’.

DORICO WISH LIST

----------------------------

Develop a COPILOT similar to Windows 11 provides where I can type in a question and get an answer.

Type in chord symbols and get presented with a pulldown menu of all the possible chords which get more specific with the more characters you enter. For example if I type in just C I get a list something like this:

C - major triad

Cm - minor triad

Cm7 - minor seventh chord

etc.

C7

C7(#9)

Cmaj9

.

.

.

.

That way I can select the specific chord I want as I am concerned that I am not spelling the chords correctly.

Does this sound feasible?

(please don’t post in bold. It sounds like you are shouting)

The trash can icon is only used for deleting custom chord symbol definitions - that is, where the chord symbol itself is custom. To remove a custom appearance of a built-in chord symbol, you need to use the Reset button - you’re resetting the chord symbol’s appearance to the default rather than deleting the chord symbol entirely.

I tried resetting the custom appearances and the results are terrible. For Em7 I get E which is a major triad. I must be doing something wrong. All these problems started when I upgraded from DORICO PRO 5 to 6. These are my appearances; they are still there. is there any easy way to delete all of them quickly so I can start fresh? I had to reset them all manually.

Are you trying to reset the appearances of an existing score, or for newly-created scores? Perhaps you could attach an example of a project that shows the problem?

Here is DORICO 5 after I deleted my custom project chord symbol appearances. This is a new test project. BTW, I could only delete one at a time, very time consuming and tedious! Do I need to do this for every project? However the result is that my chords look good without my customizations and with picking DORICO 5 preset options that are as close to what I want as possible.

Unfortunately on DORICO 6 my existing project has messed up chord symbols:

Look at how bad my F#m7(b5) looks and I need Am7 D7, not A D7 and I need Fm7 Bb7 not Fm7 Bb and I need Em7 A7 not Em7 A. This is just one example. Am I stuck with these chord appearances I created? I want them deleted permanently.

Does DORICO offer any support where an EXPERT can take control of my computer and go in there and clean up this mess? This has been going on for weeks and I cannot proceed with my work. I am NOT a music publisher who works at this 40 hours a week. I am a performing musician and I need to make scores in case we get a new band member who does not know a certain tune. I am making popular jazz standards, gershwin, cole porter, etc. I am not doing scoring for symphony orchestras. This is supposedly simpler stuff I am doing.

If you want to reset the chord symbol appearances in Dorico 6 when viewing your old score, you should be able to do that within the Library > Chord Symbols dialog. Does that not work? Chord Symbol appearances are stored within the project, so deleting your custom appearances in v5 won’t make any difference to projects that have already been saved.

Unfortunately it does not work resetting to default in DORICO 6. Look at the inaccurate chord spelling for a minor 7b5 chord. I want to DELETE (not just RESET) every one of my custom chord symbols so they are gone PERMANENTLY and do not show up in my projects in the custom chord symbol appearances list. Why did DORICO drop support for deleting these components? or is it a software bug in DORICO 6? I want to go with whatever DORICO preset options are as closest to my needs as possible but I think my chord symbol appearances are preventing DORICO to give me the preset appearances I want.

i thank you for trying to help me and I appreciate any further advice you may offer but I think I am causing some sort of clashing that is causing DORICO to misinterpret my chords so I want to start from scratch. I have asked questions on the DORICO 6 Chord symbols videos and on the facebook groups and emailed DORICO support and I have not gotten a resolution. DORICO is unusable at this point. My only choice I think is to re edit all my custom chord symbols and I want to avoid that if possible. I made custom chord symbols because I was new to DORICO coming from FINALE and I did not initially have a good grasp of the chord PRESET concepts. Again, I just want to PERMANENTLY DELETE every one of my project default chord symbol appearances in DORICO 6 so it is like I never made them to begin with.

Dorico hasn’t dropped support for anything here - it’s still possible to reset chord symbol appearances to their defaults. We call this Reset in the UI, to distinguish it from Delete which only applies to custom chord symbols - when you Reset a chord symbol, you reinstate the default appearance, whereas when you Delete a chord symbol, you can’t use it at all in your project. This is just a change of name, though, the functionality is still the same as it was in v5. Have you actually tried resetting your chord symbol appearances?
