I’ve been trying to move all of a player’s previously scored content to a new instrument – in effect, replacing one set of sounds associated with the player’s scored part with another.
However, when I add the new instrument to the player, the previously entered MIDI events continue to trigger sounds associated with the old instrument. Worse, after adding the second instrument, deleting the original instrument from the player doesn’t automatically associate the MIDI notes with the new instrument. Doing so merely deletes all the notes scored for that player.
Is there a way to simply migrate all of a player’s content to a different instrument, and then delete the original instrument? One complication is that I’m really talking about multiple unpitched percussion “instruments” bundled into a percussion kit.
However, note mappings of specific percussion instruments don’t matter much, since I’ll probably be changing the kit’s note assignments after assigning it to the player.
So, I think because you’re working with a Percussion Kit is where the problem may be.
When copying music from these, I normally find it best to view the old and new kits as single line instruments (i.e. high-hat has its own single line stave, snare has one, etc) so that you are definitely copying from one Instrument to another. Then, change the kit presentation type back to 5-line (or whatever).
Is there a sample project you can provide with some examples of what you’re trying to transfer?
if you go to edit percussion kit in set up and then choose change instrument, the two arrows at the bottom left, you can change the instrument and maintain the notes. Next you can move the new instrument to the vertical location you want it on in the 5 line staff or grid. You might have to add and allocate the new instrument to the correct sound in play mode if your playback template does not take care of that automatically.
