Deleting one of the two piano staves for a specific section

Hello everyone, I’ve been using Dorico Pro 5 for some months now. There is an issue I can’t seem to find a solution for.

I’m writing a big band score and I have a grand staff piano part in it. I need to hide one of the two staves (the treble clef) only of for the solo section, where I will just need the bass clef with slashes and chord symbols. I will need the grand staff again at the end of the solo section. As far as I know and see, the treble clef staff on the piano part is empty (except for the empty bar rests). So far, reading on the internet, this is what I’ve tried:

  1. Right click on the treble clef piano staff>staff>remove staff: it deletes the staff for the whole score, and I just need it gone for a section only;
  2. Layout options>vertical spacing> layout visibility> and I checked the box “allow individual staves of multi-staff instruments to be hidden”. I excluded all the other players from Hide Empty Staves, checking all the boxes of “Players Excluded from Hide Empty Staves”, except the piano one of course. Nothing works, whether I selected “after first system”, “all systems” or “never”.
  3. Highlighted the bar I needed to be removed, right clicked>staff>manual staff visibility> piano (a) “hide”. No result.

I’m sure I’m missing something that possibly has to do with system breaks or frames, but I’m not sure and I’m really lost at this point. Any help would be really appreciated, thank you so much!

So go to the bar you want it to return, select the bass staff and right-click>staff>add staff above

This is what to do–then do the same process, but pick “reset” to have the removed staff return.

The issue I have with the manual visibility route is that it only works on whole systems and so messes up layouts. For grand staff instruments I prefer the remove/add staff approach.

Thank you so much, Janus! This seems to be the solution for me.

I completely agree with you!

Thanks James for your answer. I think Janus solutions works the best for this purpose
