Deletion Affects Previous Bar in Write Mode

When deleting in write mode, it removes the notes in the preceding bar, which, in my opinion, disrupts the workflow and seems unintuitive. Is there a specific reason behind this behavior that I might be overlooking? (see video)

When the caret is active, Delete works just like in a text editor – it removes the previous note and moves the caret back.

Normally, the caret is on the ‘front edge’ of the notes; but using Q for Chords mode changes things a little bit, because the cursor doesn’t move forward when you enter a note.

You’re best off pressing Undo, if you want to reverse your previous action.

Hi @black_robin, adding up to the useful explanation and suggestion by @benwiggy, just be aware that there are Key Commands shortcuts for Delete Left /Delete Right while you are in Note Input (caret activated). That is specific to note entry, and uses the same shortcut as in Edit/Delete (with the caret not activated), but has a different functionality: it will delete what is on the left of the current cursor position. If you move your cursor with the arrow key to the right, you can then delete what is on the left, but in case of chords, it will delete all notes of the chord that is on the left of the cursor position.

Here some usage examples:

  • delete last entered note/s (this notes will be normally on the left of the cursor, because the cursor jumps to the next rhythmic position as soon as you enter a note/chord)

  • decide what to delete moving the cursor position with the arrow keys before pressing delete):

For all other cases, using undo as suggested is a method.
Or you could just press ESC to temporarily go outside note entry: the delete button will then delete just what is selected (as you probably expected).
