Details missing from IDENT.TXT when making CD-DDP

I’m assuming that when I enter details here, they should show up in the DDP file somewhere. The IDENT.TXT file has all of these fields mentioned, but even though I fill them in appropriately, they show up empty in the resulting DDP file.

Is this a bug, or is this information stored somewhere else?

I have tested on both Mac and Windows and all the fields are written in IDENT.TXT.
Therefore, please double check.

I went through about 20 DDP files, and none of them have the information I’ve written. I just did a new test run again of a few of them, and no change. The IDENT.TXT doesn’t have the information from those fields. Could this be a permission problem? I’m on macOS Sonoma.

I also noticed that they are labelled differently in the resulting file than they are in Wavelab. Is “Customer contact” supposed to be “Contact person”, and “Telephone number” “Contact”?

This is right. I think at least “Contact” should be labeled as “Telephone” in WaveLab.

I don’t think this makes a difference. This is pure software without calling the operating system. The Gear driver is writing this info, and this is opaque to me. This feature exists in WaveLab for quite many years and there was never such a report, so I have no idea.

Is the rest of the file populated with info? For example, on my test DDP, I have this info further in IDENT.TXT.

Yes, all of the other information seems to be correctly written to the file:

Could it be that you use non-ASCII characters?
Someone at Steinberg tested it yesterday and found no problem.
Hence, I have no clue.

In the original post, I entered “test” in every field. That should be completely fine, shouldn’t it?

I did another test in a different project, just in case:

I tried flicking “Write Table of Contents and Customer Information” on and back off again for good measure, but that didn’t change anything.

What what it’s worth, there are two whitespaces (" ") after each empty section in the resulting file. There are no whitespaces after tapeset name or origination date.

Please do the following:

  1. Render a DDP with all your text that should normally go to the IDENT.TXT file.
  2. Do a “Save As” of your montage, and use the “Copy” option to create a file independent from your actual montage.
  3. Send me that montage file (.mon). Don’t send me any audio file.

Thanks for sending over the montage file — it’s always interesting to work from an original project. As soon as I opened it, something caught my eye: it turns out to be a 96 kHz montage, and in these cases WaveLab uses a two-pass process — resampling first, then creating the DDP itself. During this less common procedure, the custom info from IDENT.TXT wasn’t being carried over.

This will be fixed in WaveLab 13.030. Must be a twenty-year-old bug :wink:
