Hello, there is a bug with the Detect Silence dialog.
The window allows you to press Process before it has actually applied the parameters set in the window.
This means that if you have multiple parts selected, apply the same settings, and click Process quickly enough, the part itself can be deleted.
You currently need to wait for the blue bars to appear before using the feature properly.
This is a problem because users often want to process several takes at once with the exact same settings, and they shouldn’t have to wait for the dialog to become ready before being able to press Process.
In my opinion, the best solution would be to have an “Apply to All Selected” option (or whatever name makes sense) that reliably batches the operation on all selected parts.
Alternatively, although I don’t think it’s as nice of a solution, Process could simply be disabled until the window is actually ready.
PS:
This issue has been originally reported here but ended up under the radars because (probably) not understood (@jim_griff and @alin89c for visibility)
I don’t think that’s entirely true. Yes, you need to wait for the blue bars, but only when you first open the Detect Silence window. That’s because the window will analyze the audio at pop-up (i.e. the first clip in a multi clip selection) regardless of the “auto” box being being ticked or not. Just use the “Process All Selected Events” option.
Good point, espectially when working with hours long takes. Fortunately, when working with very long audio clips (10 hours+), you can do this:
Now, the Detect Silence window will analyze only that very first short clip, allowing you to tick the “Process All Selected Events” option and press the Process button right away. I guarantee Detect Silence will work correctly over the remaining audio clips
