Device Control Panel Bug Steinberg-wide?

Years ago I had exactly this problem with Cubase, before I was forced to pay again after 5 years. Now this happens almost everytime when I switch audio devices in Dorico.

Dorico forgets to check the correct box (with your device) in “Output” in “Automatically Configure Devices” in “Input/Output Configuration” in “Core Audio Device Settings” under the “Device Control Panel”-button in “Device Setup” when you click “Audio Device Setup” ultra down on the “Play” tab in “Preferences” in the “Dorico” pull down menu. Yes, it is that complicated, and so far hidden away. And yes: Dorico (or should I say": Steinberg) forgets to tick it. The input-box is checked the right way, but the Outputbox gets forgotten, hence the lack of output (sound). It took me three days to find this and then I remembered I had exactly this problem on a different Mac with a different device, with a different program, od the same maker: Steinberg. I presume I’m not the first one with this problem.

The location, the other way around:

In the “Dorico” pull down menu (up-left on the screen) you go:

Preferences > tab Play > Audio Device Setup > Device Control Panel > and then check the correct box for your output device.

Hi @RoelVanWijk ,

first I’d like to tell you that you can get to that control panel more quickly via the Dorico menu, namely Edit > Device Setup.
Then I would like to know, does this happen to you on every start of Dorico? That the outputs are not enabled is something that quite a few users experience, but once set correctly it stays that way. Is that not the case with you?

You might want to supply a Diagnostic Report (from the Help menu), which will provide the developers with in-depth information about your setup.

At the very least – which OS version, and are you using a third-party audio interface and drivers?

When you say “forgotten”, do you mean that it un-checks a previously assigned output; or that it just doesn’t automatically assign any output?

Wauw! Thanks, I didn’t know that shortcut.

It doesn’t happen every time, but almost always when I switch audio interface, in my case: built in speakers to AudioTechnica usb-microphone and back.

Here are my diagnostics. It doesn’t check the box, like I described. I don’t know what you mean, I’m a computer nitwit and my English is extremely poor. Today a new thing happened: after switching to my Audiotechnica, the output box was checked, so I got sound, hurray! But the input box wasn’t. No problem for now, but I don’t know if garageband automatically “takes” the correct input. I now think Garaband does. Up to now every setting is just what I need. Steinberg offers a lot more flexibility, I imagine, that I’ll never need or use, but seems to need some assistance from me in getting everything correct. I think some programs are able to do that, but Steinberg products are not the best in that. I hope I express myself clearly. Thank you for all the thinking with me.

My macbook is an Air from 2020, running on Tahoe, and I use Dorico 6 with an AT2020USB+ (it sais so in the device setup window.)

The thing is, Dorico does not use inputs like mic or line in, but only outputs.

So I guess this is what is happening:

You switch to USB-mic and that one has no outputs, therefore Dorico mutes the outputs. Then Built-in Audio comes back and the outputs stay muted.

I’m not an expert in that dusty corner of the app and need to ask my specialist for that next week. A little patience please. Thanks

That sounds plausible, thanks. Only thing is: my usb mike does have outputs, it’s an interface as well.
