I now use cakewalk Sonar I often compose by entering notes on a music staff using the mouse. Is a similar approach possible with Cubase?
Yes! Even using the cheapest edition.
I moved from Cakewalk (Sonar) to Cubase a few years ago. Cubase is much, much better in every respect! Good luck.
